Synthetic Research

Generate AI-powered survey responses from configurable audience profiles

Synthetic Research lets you generate realistic AI-powered survey responses from virtual respondents that match your target demographics. Instead of waiting days or weeks for real customers to respond, you can get directional data in minutes by defining audience profiles and letting the AI fill out your survey on their behalf.

Why use Synthetic Research?

  • Test survey logic before going live — Catch broken flows, confusing questions, or missing answer options before real customers see your survey.

  • Validate question wording — See how different audiences interpret your questions and whether the responses make sense.

  • Pre-populate dashboards for demos — Show stakeholders what a completed survey looks like with realistic data.

  • Research audiences you don't have access to — Explore how different demographics might respond without needing to recruit them.

  • Get directional data fast — When you need quick signal on a question, synthetic responses can give you a starting point within minutes.

How it works

  1. Create a survey — Build your survey with the questions you want answered.

  2. Open the Audience tab — Navigate to your survey and click on the Audience tab.

  3. Configure audience profiles — Pick a template (like US General Population or Young Professionals) or build profiles from scratch. Each profile defines a demographic segment with attributes like age, gender, geography, and more.

  4. Set your research goal and context — Optionally describe what you want to learn and provide business context to improve response quality.

  5. Set completion count — Choose how many virtual respondents should complete the survey (1 to 1,000).

  6. Click Generate — The AI generates responses for each profile, respecting your survey's branching logic and question rules.

  7. View results — Responses appear in your standard analytics dashboard, just like real responses.

Synthetic responses are tagged with isSynthetic metadata so you can always distinguish them from real customer responses.

Monthly limits

Each plan includes a monthly quota of synthetic answers. Answers are calculated as completions x answerable questions — so a 5-question survey with 100 completions uses 500 answers. This quota is separate from your plan's response limit, and synthetic research never counts toward it.

Non-answerable question types (copy, thank-you, reward, and action questions) are not counted toward your synthetic answer total.

On a plan that predates the September 2026 lineup (Basic, Plus, Pro, or a legacy Premium or Ultimate subscription)? You keep the quota you signed up with — check the Subscription page in your dashboard for your account's exact allotment.
